4.6 Configuring ht://Dig
For complete documentation on configuring and running ht://Dig, point
tothefile/usr/doc/htdig-3.0.8b2/index.htmlwith your web browser
or refer to the ht://Dig web page at http://www.htdig.org.
Please Note:ht://Dig does not currently have the ability to connect to a
secure web server. If you want to use ht://Dig, you’ll have to use it with
the non-secure web serverwhich wasprovided as part of your secure web
server’s default configuration.
To get started with ht://Dig, edit the /etc/htdig.conf file as follows:
1. Change the line that begins with:
start_url: http://htdig.sdsu.edu/
so that it names your domain instead of htdig.sdsu.edu.
2. Save the htdig.conf file. You may wish to read through this file
and make any other changes you think are appropriate, but this is
the only required change.
3. Type the following commands to set up your search database:
rundig
rundig is in /usr/bin, which should be in your path.
4. Now point your browser to
http://www.yourdomain.com/htdig/search.html to search
your web site.
5. You may also want to customize the following files to display infor-
mation specific to your site:
/home/httpd/htdig/search.html This isthe pagethat youwill need
to link to for searching your site. You may wish to make this
file a symlink to index.html in the same directory, so that the
http://www.yourdomain.com/htdig/ works as well.
/var/lib/htdig/header.html This pagewill bedisplayedat thetop of
any search results.
