The PVS configuration script next asks if the PVS is to be used with a SecurityCenter.

Answering yes to this question causes the PVS installation to create a set of start scripts and

configurations that allow PVS data to be sent to a SecurityCenter and to also receive new

passive vulnerability plugins from a SecurityCenter as well.

This is accomplished by the pvs-proxy daemon, which performs a similar function as the

SecurityCenter’s lightning-proxy daemon, but is specifically tuned to upload PVS data to

the SecurityCenter and to download new PVS passive plugins.

Plugins are pushed to the PVS from SecurityCenter or downloaded directly from

Tenable via a provided script. PVS verifies the digital signatures of all plugin

downloads to ensure file integrity.

To communicate with the SecurityCenter, this PVS installation needs to establish its own

unique username and password. This credential information needs to be configured on the

SecurityCenter through the administration interface so the SecurityCenter can log into this

PVS and retrieve vulnerability data. For more information on this, please refer to

SecurityCenter Administration Guide.
